Off To School

I'm already 3.5 years old. Daddy & Mummy thinks it's time I started school. They hope I will learn to be more independant and play well with other kids there.

Starting early this month, I have been going to Vital Years near my house. Class starts ~9am and ends by 11.30-12noon. I learn to read, color, sing, dance, role act at school. Daddy & Mummy chose to send me here mainly because it's nearby, there are not too many kids (1 teacher 7 kids ratio), and this centre is quite particular about cleanliness.

For the first 3 days, Mummy/Daddy accompanied me to school, I cried everytime my temperature was taken when I arrived at school (the teachers check each kid for signs of fever). I just don't like unfamiliar people touching me (one of the reasons why D&M thinks I should go to school, to get used to being in/with unfamiliar surrounding/people). After 3 days, teacher told Mummy to let me stay by myself. To cut a long story short, it took me about 3 weeks to fully stop crying. Some days when I didn't cry, I would say proudly "I didn't cry at school today"; on other days that I did cry, by the time Mummy comes to pick me up from school, I would tell her "Tomorrow I won't cry at school anymore".

So, I am fully enjoying school now. Teacher says I am reading very well, enjoying myself dancing, singing, playing. BUT, teacher and D&M says I have 1 more thing to overcome... you see, until now, I refuse to let teacher bring me to the toilet. I won't go to the toilet until Mummy comes after school. Teacher is so worried. She says they have never encountered a situation like this before. Mummy has tried to talk to me many times, 'bribing' me with chocolates/sweets, but nothing has worked so far... I am very adamant about NOT going to toilet at school. Dear uncles and aunties, my Daddy & Mummy want to know if you have any tips...?

First day to school.

How about teaching Shanna to go to the toilet on her own? Then she won't need teacher to help her. Maybe she's embarrassed/shy to go to toilet in front of a stranger/non-family member? If she does it on her own, then she would probably be ok. Nowadays, Matt sometimes insists on closing the door while he pees and doesn't want to let me see him pee. Strangely, he's alright peeing with a group of men at the urinal :$

Hi Vivien,
Yes, we are going to try that. The thing is the toilet is quite high, and Shanna will need to climb up with a stool. Without supervision it could be not very safe :(
