By Boat to Jerejak
For non-Penangites, Jerejak Island (Pulau Jerejak) is a small island off Penang Island. Jerejak Island can be seen across a small strait of water, from Intel, Agilent, Penang Bridge and even Queensbay Mall.
Shanna had so much fun from our last Penang Hill trip, that she kept talking about it, about how she went up the hill on the train, that we had a rather sudden idea and decision, to bring Shanna for a boat ride to Jerejak Island.
For little kids, there isn't much to do on the island except playing on the beach and using the swimming pool, both activities that can be done pretty much anywhere on Penang Island itself. So, the focus of this outing was the boat ride. The boat (ferry) departs from the jetty near Queensbay Mall. It was a short 15 minute ride to Jerejak Island. It costs us more than we anticipated, RM25 per adult for a return trip. It was free for Shanna (yay!) & Ian (of course!).
Shanna was so excited as we left the house for the jetty, she couldn't stop asking to "go on the boat". She was literally jumping and prancing around in joy & anticipation. While during the whole time we were on the boat, she kept talking excitedly and telling us that she was very happy. Ian, was more laidback (not knowing anything helps :) ), and he fell asleep while waiting for the boat, and only woke up when we reached Jerejak Island.

Earthquake
"When the earthquake happened, we escaped from the apartment!"
"Mummy, I saw the door open and close on it's own, then Ah Mah rescued me!"
This is Shanna's description of what happened, when the tremors from the earthquake in Sumatera were felt here in Penang on Wednesday.
Our babysitter had to carry our 2 babies Shanna & Ian down 11 floors of stairs, twice. I don't wonder that her knees were sore the next day. The vibrations were strong enough to cause the door in the apartment to swing open & close.
Tim and I also felt the tremors, and I halted my expressing of milk, stuck the milk into the refridgerator and went down 9 flight of stairs. We saw funny water patterns in the swimming pool, not the normal ripples. The 2nd tremors were not felt as we were in the car heading to pick the kids up.
Thank God for protection.

Pair of Darlings
Shanna and Ian together make such a cute picture that we can't get enough of it. So here are a bunch of photos to share.
Some people have asked how is Shanna reacting to her younger brother. We are thankful to report that Shanna is a good sister. She does sometimes insist on our attention, but she is not jealous of Ian and has no problem with either Tim or myself taking care of Ian... as long as the other person is with her. She loves helping us out with Ian - fetching clothing, wiping his mouth, etc. She also likes to make Ian smile by talking and playing with him. She loves holding Ian in her arms and posing for photos such as in this post.
We're thankful for such a pair of darlings :)

Up To Penang Hill
Daddy was away on business trip for 2 weeks. We all missed him when he was gone, but Grandma came to visit and take care of us all. Despite all the nice home cooked food, my Mummy lost 2kgs during this period, being so busy at work and at home (lots of early & late night meetings). When Mummy and her colleagues went up Penang Hill one afternoon for a work related event; she thought I would enjoy going up Penang Hill too.
When Daddy came back from his trip, he took a day off to get some rest. So, Mummy suggested that we all go to Penang Hill. I was sticking very close to Daddy and Mummy when we sent Ian over to Ah Mah's house, I was worried that I'd be left behind too.
Mummy told me that we were going to take the train up the hill. I was very excited, I kept saying to Mummy the whole way to Air Itam "Mummy, I want to go up the train!". I couldn't wait for Daddy to get us the tickets, I kept asking to go up the train. Daddy & Mummy's tickets cost RM8 each, while mine cost RM4.

The new train is very fast, and goes directly up to the top without needing to change train during the mid-hill station. The air con works better, but it is just as crowded.
At the hill top, we walked around, looked through the telescope. We had lunch at David Brown, an English restaurant with a lovely garden. The food there was quite good, but overpriced. Even with 20% off using Mummy's credit card it was expensive. Anyway, I enjoyed my lunch and ate quite a large portion too. I had a lot of fun running around in the garden, playing with the grass, and pebbles. I didn't want to leave.
